The Executive Committee of the Democratic Club of Kent County acknowledges the shameful and regrettable history of racism in Kent County and specifically in the Town of Chestertown. The DCKC encourages the Chestertown Mayor and Town Council to erect a visible, public display of support stating that Black Lives Matter, such as a street mural, at a prominent, central location in the Town within the next 30 days. This should be done in a way that best unifies the community and serves as a springboard to a more permanent public memorial to the past. The nature and form of the initial display should be determined by the Mayor and Town Council. Simultaneously, a cross cultural committee should be formed to research and recommend the more permanent memorial.
