Your Executive Committee recently voted to continue the club’s current practice of affording all Democratic candidates an equal opportunity to have their materials distributed and their voices heard. We’ll consider candidate requests for donations on a case-by-case basis. All candidates are encouraged to send us information for this section of the newsletter.
Ben Jealous to speak at NAACP Banquet
The Kent Branch of the NAACP is proud to announce that Ben Jealous, former CEO of the national NAACP and Democratic candidate for Maryland Governor, will be the guest speaker at its annual Scholarship Banquet. The theme of this year’s banquet is “Rooted in the Past, Growing into the Future.” The banquet raises funds for scholarships for minority students who are pursuing higher education. Two scholarships will be awarded during this event.

Jesse Colvin
Jesse Colvin, candidate for U.S. Congress, will appear in Chestertown on First Friday, October 5-location TBA. He’ll return for the “Raise Your Voice and Vote” Rally on the afternoon of October 13 (see below). In the meantime, we ‘re actively canvassing and making phone calls for him. Colvin yard signs are now in limited supply. The campaign has told us that if a volunteer knocks on 100 doors or makes 200 calls, they’ll get a yard sign and a t-shirt.
Tom Timberman
Tom Timberman, candidate for Kent County Commissioner, is scheduled to meet with the mayors and councils of Galena (7:00 pm, 10/01/18) and Betterton (7:00 pm, 10/09/18), and invites all voters to attend. His campaign also told us he is available to discuss his Kent 2025 Plan’s goals with any group and has four dates open before the General Election on 11/06/18. The start date of Early Voting, October 25, is just around the corner, and I know you share the knowledge that getting out the vote for Democrats is vital. My campaign for re-election as Attorney General is thrilled with the energy of your Democratic team, whether it’s at the Farmer’s Market in Chestertown or across Kent County.
I have worked hard to be the People’s Lawyer for the past four years, and the office has proved to be a powerful platform. Still, there is much work to be done, and I hope you will support me to continue the fight.
In September, we brought suit against a business that we allege led Marylanders to become addicted to opioids after the company’s fentanyl spray was prescribed to them. My team is deeply committed to this issue. We know that few families are untouched by the opioid crisis.
My AG team has prosecuted criminal gangs, car-jacking rings, and other serious threats to our safety. We shut down scammers. We are tackling Medicaid fraud and abuse against the elderly and vulnerable. And, finally, where President Trump has threatened Maryland’s health care, environment, rights and values, I have stood up to protect Marylanders.
