Our County is fortunate to have an outstanding candidate for Clerk of the Circuit Court of Kent County — Sherise Kennard, who currently holds that position. She has devoted her life to the office, starting her employment there in 1993. Due to her work ethic and experience, she was promoted to Chief Deputy Clerk in 2015, and she has served as the Clerk of the Court since 2020 when Mark Mumford retired from that position. She responsibly manages a very large budget and handles the demands of her complicated job with competence and grace. Sherise Kennard deserves your vote!
Running against her is a disgraced former Judge of the Orphan’s Court, Amy Nickerson, who was formally removed from that office by the Maryland Court of Appeals in 2021 based on a recommendation from the Maryland Commission on Judicial Disabilities. The stated reason was that she was “charged and convicted of impaired driving and other related offenses; sought to use her judicial office and personal connections to influence an officer’s decision to charge her with impaired driving and related offenses; failed to cooperate with an officer during a traffic stop; failed to cooperate with disciplinary authorities; and failed to comply with the terms of a Conditional Diversion Agreement and private reprimand.” The reprimand reportedly involved failure to file income tax returns for the years 2013-2018.
