The Democratic Club of Kent County “seeks for our County, State and Nation, and for all people, individual freedom in the framework of a just society and political freedom in the framework of meaningful participation by all citizens. Bound by the Constitution of the United States, aware that a party must be responsive to be worthy of a responsibility, we pledge ourselves to open, honest endeavor and to the conduct of public affairs in a manner worthy of a society of free people.” – DCKC Bylaws.
In the light of this statement of purpose for the Club, DCKC leadership recently met to discuss our goals for 2022. Obviously, we want to elect Democrats! But beyond that broad statement, why is that important? What do we hope to accomplish for our County? At our meeting, we articulated a number of issues and themes which are important to us:
- Education — we support a public education system which seeks to provide a quality education for all of our children, and has adequate resources for doing so.
- Climate Change and the Environment – to the extent possible, we support local action to address climate change and to protect the environment.
- Economic Justice – we support socially responsible and responsive policies which promote economic growth and opportunity for all citizens. Along with this we expect fiscal responsibility from our leaders, with open and transparent budgetary accountability. Addressing the related challenges of workforce housing and transportation must be priorities. as well.
So we’re hoping that all Democrats, running for any office where we have a vote, will understand these points and will express support. And that they’ll contact us after the Primary Election to gain our support.
