The Graham & Perry Foundation is soliciting contributions for its Officer Brian Sicknick Memorial Fund. Sicknick was the Capitol Police Officer murdered on 1/06. We learned that he has no immediate family, beyond a brother, and that his principal non-work related activity was helping to rescue, care for and foster abandoned and abused Dachshunds in Northern Virginia. He himself adopted two: one was elderly and blind and the other younger and healthy.
There was an interview with Brian’s neighbor in a story in the Washington Post that got my attention. She described how every evening after he got home from work he would carry the blind senior Dachshund from tree to tree while the other was on a long leash. She also said he was the first person the neighborhood went to if they had a problem and needed help..
We hope to collect $1000.00 and intend to donate it in Brian Sicknick’s name to the All American Dachshund Rescue Foundation. They were very pleased to hear about Officer Sicknick’s devotion to abused Dachshunds and will ensure the funds are put to use in his name.
I’ve also talked to the Acting Chief of the Capitol Police who was very happy to learn Brian was being honored in this way and offered to forward a letter about the donation to Brian’s brother.
