Rev. Mary Walker
The Democratic Club of Kent County is proud to be able to acknowledge the many years of community service and active engagement of our friend Mary Walker, who was sworn in last week by Clerk of the Court Sherise Kennard to serve as a member of the Kent County Board of Elections. Rev. Walker has supported the democratic process in Kent County for decades, serving as an election judge at the Board office, at the Community Center in Worton, and most recently at the Chestertown Library, where she is well known to many Chestertown residents as she greets them when they show up to vote. Her comment on this role: “I’ve just always wanted to know what’s going on, and to be a part of the process.” Congratulations to Rev. Walker on this well-deserved honor!
Mary began service at her church, Mt. Olive AME, at age 19, where she currently serves as Assistant Pastor under the leadership of Rev. Monique Davis. She has served many roles for the church over the years. Currently, Rev. Walker is active with Mt. Olive’s food program, which provides meals to well over 100 members of the community on a monthly basis.
Rev. Walker has been an active part of the MOTA Program operated by the Kent County Health Dept. for years — the “Minority Outreach and Technical Assistance” Program. Working with Rev. Sheila Lomax and others, she helps the Department reach out to minority communities on matters of public health.
An active member of the Chester Valley Ministers’ Association for over 30 years, Rev. Walker was among the small group of CVMA members and others in the community who helped to grow the annual MLK Breakfast on Martin Luther King Day into the important community event it is today in Kent County.
It is a privilege for the Democratic Club of Kent County to be able to honor this extraordinary woman. Thanks, Rev. Walker!!
