The local group Social Action Committee for Racial Justice is working with the county schools and other groups to provide healthy meals for children and our older homebound citizens:
Message from Sumner Hall — Face Masks!
There is also another important helping initiative in our community: making masks for use by health workers.
- Earlier this week Chester River Health Foundation’s Maryann Ruehrmund, said: “UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown is very grateful to Cheryl Hoopes and her small army of volunteers involved with Face Mask Challenge – Kent County who are sewing faces masks for our nurses and essential staff. However, Cheryl needs more help! To donate your time for cutting and ironing fabric or to donate fabric or your sewing skills, please contact Cheryl at 410-708-3321.”
- Kent County Health Officer, William Webb, also applauds this effort and the Health Department will help with the distribution of homemade masks to organizations that can give them to individuals who are symptomatic and need to limit the spread of respiratory droplets from the infected. “Residents of nursing homes, assisted living agencies, and other group homes desperately need these masks. I can assure you that none will go to waste.”
- Note: there is a collection box on the back porch of Sumner Hall where you may drop off finished masks. Please put masks in sealed plastic bags along with your name and contact information.
