The Good News – Aug. 15 (beginning a regular feature of the DCKC Newsletter)
Heading the list of good news: the Senate and House both passed the $370 billion Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 last week, and President Biden will sign it this week. This bill has been described as the climate-health-tax bill and contains provisions to lower prescription drug costs, address global warming, raise taxes on some billion-dollar corporations, and reduce the federal deficit.
But that’s not all! The following list is from Robert Hubbel’s Today’s Edition Newsletter from Aug. 11, which he encouraged us to share widely:
“On Wednesday [Aug. 10], the Labor Department announced that the month-to-month increase in inflation between June and July was effectively 0%, indicating that inflation may have peaked. Average gasoline prices have dropped by $1.00 per gallon in the last 60 days. President Biden signed the PACT Act on Wednesday…. Earlier in the week, Biden signed protocols admitting Sweden and Finland into NATO, and the FDA approved an emergency strategy to expand the number of available monkeypox vaccinations. Last Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released a stunning jobs report. Per CNN,
‘The US economy has now regained all jobs lost during the pandemic, after a blowout July jobs report that showed a gain of 528,000 jobs, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The unemployment rate ticked down to 3.5% after holding at 3.6% for the past four months. The July jobless rate matched the half-century low last seen in February 2020.’”
While the news media may be concentrating on Trump and his troubles and inflation bad news above all else, it’s important to note, celebrate, and remember the accomplishments of the Biden administration in economic growth and recovery and making this country a better place for all Americans to live.
