Congratulations and thanks to Ted Gallo, Tom Herz, and Tom Timberman for stepping forward to run for Kent County Commissioner. We can all agree that it’s time for a change, and our three candidates (unopposed in the July Primary) are well deserving of your support! We’ve heard from each of them:
Ted Gallo
I have been living in Kent County for nearly 13 years now. I was raised to believe that public service is a noble calling and I have dedicated my career to helping my community. I am a licensed social worker currently working in Annapolis, and have previously worked at the Whitsitt Center in Chestertown helping people who are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. I have been married for over 20 years and have identical twin boys who attend Kent County High School and a daughter (who was one of the last children born at our local hospital) attending Kent County Middle School, all of whom are attending Kent County Public Schools.
I am running to make Kent County work better for everyone. It is important to protect the rural character of the county, but at the same time be seen as a welcome and inviting place for people to raise a family, start a business and retire. This means having a high-quality school system, a business-friendly environment, and quality health care. As Commissioner I intend to make the County an ally to all of the residents.

Tom Herz
I am a 22-year resident of Kent County where I live with my wife, Sharon. I work as a consultant for private companies and the U.S. Government. The focus of my work is building diverse and multi-disciplinary teams to update outdated business processes and implement modern software solutions to complicated business problems.
I currently serve on Chestertown’s Town Council as the Ward Two representative.
I’m running for Kent County Commissioner to serve the residents of Kent County.
It is my belief that public service is a duty that every citizen should undertake to better their community. To that end, I spend every day listening to my constituents and working hard to serve the interests of Ward 2 and Chestertown.
I’m eager to bring my professional skills and personal talents to make Kent County the very best it can be. Under my leadership we can define a responsible vision of economic development for the county that highlights and preserves our past, is inviting to visitors, and builds a hopeful future for our young people.
I look forward to sharing my vision for what we can achieve together in the coming weeks.

Tom Timberman
Tom and his wife Judy moved to Kent County from DC over 20 years ago; first to Rock Hall and then, after Hurricane Isabel, to Chestertown. Tom is an Army vet, lawyer, and former senior Foreign Service officer, and for the past 15 years, served as an economic development team leader or government advisor in war zones. Afghanistan was his most recent. Tom has also trained mid-level public and private sector managers on strategic planning. He is a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Chestertown. His volunteer work includes many years representing Kent County on the Upper Shore Workforce Investment Board and is its former vice president. Tom is also a board member of the Chesapeake College Foundation. More recently, he joined an advisory council working on senior citizen volunteerism. He is currently raising funds for Save the Children’s programs in Ukraine. Tom writes regularly for the Chestertown Spy.
Why I’m a Candidate for the County Commission: First, I’m not running against anyone or because I strongly oppose positions the Commission has taken or is taking. I’ve known most of the commissioners and other local officials for the two decades we’ve lived in Kent County. I think they’ve handled their operational responsibilities and dealt with crises, such as the pandemic, well and with the interests of the residents very much in mind. However, I’ve become increasingly concerned over the years with Kent County’s future as a dynamic, viable community. I decided to run because I have a peculiar collection of skill sets and background that can help create a longer-term action plan with benchmark objectives aimed at achieving a
Kent County vision. One that features a growing, younger population and an expanding, modern economy offering career jobs with family-supporting incomes. This future county will enable those born here to stay and raise their children and attract new people who want the same things and where both will find available all the services they need. Achieving
this, while ensuring the existing natural beauty, historic environment, and special Kent spirit, are not diminished, will require hard, focused work. I’m running because I want to contribute to this critically important community mission.
